Reporting directly to the Site Operations Director, with a dotted line to the Business Unit, you’ll take ownership of all QHSE activities on site, championing continuous improvement and ensuring full compliance with relevant standards.

Our Dunfermline facility manufactures stabiliser and steering gear systems for both commercial and naval customers and also provides servicing for all commercial marine equipment across the UK. With a fully operational factory on site, this role will be primarily focused on HSE activities (approx. 70%), while also overseeing the Quality team (approx. 30%).

We’re looking for someone pragmatic and highly organised, who leads with integrity and professionalism, and is committed to fostering a strong culture of safety and quality throughout the organisation.

Due to MOD security requirements, candidates must be BPSS cleared prior to starting and may also be required to obtain Security Clearance (SC) depending on the nature of the work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver effective local QHSE governance by establishing and maintaining robust frameworks, providing expert guidance to drive continuous improvement, and ensuring objectives and targets align with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Emergency Response Planning: identify local emergency scenarios through effective risk management and support the development of robust emergency response plans that integrate seamlessly with business continuity strategies.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and follow-up of QHSE audits to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement across site operations.
  • Monitor and report monthly on QHSE objectives and performance, providing updates to KM, Division, and Business Unit stakeholders as required.
  • Support the site management team, proactively addressing issues and contributing to management reviews to strengthen QHSE performance and culture.
  • Responsible for supporting the development and upskilling of direct reports to address identified competency gaps during a transitional period.
QHSE‑Specific Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain the site’s environmental aspects and impacts register, along with comprehensive HSE risk assessments.
  • Maintain the HSE compliance register, ensuring alignment with KM standards and legal requirements.
  • Lead investigations into HSE incidents, ensuring timely, effective, and efficient responses that support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Identify HSE training needs and coordinate delivery with approved providers to ensure workforce competence and compliance with safety standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for local authorities and key stakeholders on all relevant HSE matters.
  • Oversee the site Quality team, identifying development opportunities and coordinating training to support team growth and performance.
  • Utilise the ERP system and Microsoft tools, including Power BI, to generate timely and accurate management reports that support business decision‑making.
Qualifications and experience
  • Degree in HSE or a related discipline, or relevant professional certifications.
  • Proven experience managing ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ management experience in a Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment role.
  • Membership of IOSH and IEMA is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
