Job Title:
Technical Estimator & Cost Analyst
Role Summary We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Technical Estimator & Cost Analyst. In this role, you will be responsible for calculating accurate pricing and quotations. You will also conduct post-production analysis auditing completed jobs to ensure all costs have been captured accurately and comparing actual performance against initial estimates to drive profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Estimating & Pricing
- Analyze technical specifications, customer discussions, and engineering drawings to prepare accurate cost estimates
- Calculate material, labour, and overhead costs required for manufacturing projects.
- Work closely with the management and engineering teams to understand the scope and technical requirements of each build before pricing.
- Maintain and update pricing models and databases for raw materials, components, and labour rates.
2. Job Costing & Tracking
- Ensure every purchase, labour hour, and operational cost is correctly allocated to its specific project/job number.
- Monitor ongoing jobs to ensure costs are tracking in line with the initial estimates.
- Collaborate with the shop floor and procurement teams to capture any variations or additional costs incurred during the manufacturing process.
3. Post-Job Analysis & Reporting
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of completed jobs, comparing the final actual costs against the original pricing estimates.
- Identify and report on discrepancies, highlighting areas where the project overperformed or under performed financially.
- Provide actionable feedback to management on how to improve production efficiency or adjust future pricing based on historical data.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Estimator, Cost Analyst, or similar role within an industrial manufacturing, heavy engineering, or machinery production environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and job-shop costing principles.
- High proficiency with spreadsheets and manufacturing ERP/MRP systems for tracking time and materials.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a commercial mindset.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings is highly desirable.
