Fresh Food Head of Department

About the Company Our client is one of Northern Irelands leading independent retailers, recognised for excellence in fresh food and grocery. Serving over 35,000 customers each week across two stores, fresh food is at the heart of their success. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a high-performing Fresh Food Head of Department to lead the Hot & Cold Deli team within the Coalisland store.

The Role This is a key leadership position overseeing approximately 37 full-time and part-time team members. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales, maintaining exceptional operational standards, and delivering outstanding customer service. The role requires a hands-on leader who can motivate and engage their team while ensuring the department operates efficiently and profitably.

Key Responsibilities Lead, motivate, coach and develop a team of 37 staff Oversee day-to-day operations of the hot & cold deli and service counters Plan and manage labour, rotas, holidays and staffing levels Monitor stock control, wastage and product availability Drive sales performance and achieve KPIs set by senior management Maintain exceptional merchandising and presentation standards Ensure HACCP documentation, food safety and cleaning standards are fully compliant Maintain health & safety standards and records Conduct inductions, probation reviews and performance appraisals Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to increase sales and efficiency Candidate Requirements Minimum 23 years experience in a retail management role Experience managing and developing a large team Proven track record of achieving KPIs and sales targets Fully HACCP and food safety trained Experience handling health & safety audits Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
