About the Role
Assistant Project Manager – Inchinnan, Glasgow (Hybrid, Permanent, Full‑time)

The Assistant Project Manager will play a key role within the Submarine Platforms Team, supporting the delivery of high-value, strategically significant international programmes. The candidate will manage and deliver projects and services in line with objectives set by the Senior Leadership Team, taking responsibility for financial control, budgeting and procurement in accordance with delegated authority. Working as part of a global, multi‑disciplinary team, the candidate will help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the satisfaction of customers and internal stakeholders.
The role requires strong project management, execution and reporting standards, applied through the PMO framework, and may involve international travel to support project delivery worldwide. With no direct reports, the candidate will lead by example, driving consistent adherence to project management processes and best practice.
- Support project delivery, including financial performance against budget and achievement of contractual and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets.
- Monitor, compile and submit project reports to customers and internal stakeholders in line with PMO processes, including KPI reporting.
- Ensure health, safety, environmental, sustainability and security requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle, in line with legal and regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans to communicate progress, status and variances to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Assist in identifying, assessing, mitigating and reporting project risks to ensure contractual commitments are met.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with JFD’s Global Project Execution Process (GPEP), New Process Design (NPD) and associated governance requirements.
- Work closely with the HSEQ function to ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures.
- Communicate project status and performance accurately through the tiered management system on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, including KPI reporting.
- Project management experience.
- Experience working in diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced professional environment.
- Ability to drive work in challenging and pressurised situations.
- Excellent analytical skills, including working knowledge of MS Office programmes.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact at all levels of an organisation.
- Personal energy, dynamism, positivity and enthusiasm, and the ability to think laterally and act proactively through reasoned decision‑making.
- Hold a full clean driver’s licence.
- International product delivery experience, preferably within the Defence environment.
- Awareness of working to maritime, defence standards and international quality & safety standards.
- APM Project Fundamentals & Project Management Qualification (or similar).
- Familiarity with international Quality and Safety standards (ISO 9001, 45001, etc.).
- Familiarity with working to facilities and defence standards (DEFSTAN, etc.).
- Experience of commercially sensitive projects and the security aspects that this entails.
- Candidate holding or able to obtain SC level clearance.
- Flexibility and availability to travel worldwide to support project activities.
- Early finish on Fridays.
