Overall purpose of the role
Under the supervision of Protection Manager, the protection Assistant is responsible for implementing case management, protection monitoring activities, awareness sessions and community-based protection activities. The Protection Assistant is expected to develop positive relationships with individual beneficiaries, community mobilizers and other stakeholders to identify vulnerable individuals in need of support, conduct service mapping, and share information about available services.
Responsibilities Programme- Provide case management services to vulnerable individuals, including completing assessments of the client’s needs, developing action plans, sharing information and referring them to other service providers, and carrying out follow‑up with the client.
- Deliver individual protection assistance (cash or in‑kind) to mitigate specific risks faced by persons of concern, ensuring all processes are documented in accordance with DRC's data protection protocols.
- Conduct protection monitoring activities, including data collection through FGDs, KIIs, observation, and incident recording using Ko Bo Toolbox across areas of intervention.
- Organize and engage CBPNs and/or Community Mobilizers in protection monitoring activities with the aim of collecting qualitative and quantitative data on protection risks in the target areas.
- Ensure accurate recording of community feedback, complaints received, and actions taken, and provide timely and organized data to the Protection Officer for entry and follow‑up.
- Support the Protection Officer in the establishment, orientation, and capacity‑building of CBPNs, including facilitating training sessions on the Code of Conduct and PSEA.
- Maintain regular contact with Community Volunteers (CoVs) and CBPNs through follow‑up visits, coordination meetings, household visits, awareness sessions, and community campaigns, and report on their activities and any challenges to the Protection Officer.
- Support the identification, mobilization, and onboarding of community mobilizers and focal points, ensuring diverse representation across background, nationality, ability, and location.
- Facilitate community dialogue sessions and support community‑based structures in identifying and collectively addressing protection concerns in their communities.
- Adhere to all applicable tools, forms, SOPs, and professional standards related to case management, protection monitoring, and CBP activities, as communicated by the Protection Officer and Protection Manager.
- Conduct information dissemination, awareness and capacity‑building activities with communities on protection risks, rights, and available services.
- Map available services in the area of intervention and maintain up‑to‑date information on service providers to support accurate and timely referrals.
- Produce quality reports and supporting documentation on protection activities and ensure timely submission to Protection Manager for review and internal information sharing.
- Ensure proper archiving of all activity reports in both hard and soft copy formats; use shared drives and designated information management platforms in compliance with organizational processes.
- Represent DRC and its programmes to stakeholders, including persons of concern, community mobilizers, community‑based structures, and focal points.
- Maintain professional standards and transparent communication in all external representation to build trust and ensure effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure all interactions with individuals are conducted in environments that uphold their safety, agency, and dignity in line with humanitarian protection principles.
- Support the coordination of programme support activities, including logistics, administration or security, under the guidance of the Protection Manager and in coordination with the relevant departments.
