The OHE Lineman A assists the Journeyman Lineman and Foreman while in training, performing work related to the construction and maintenance of poles, power lines, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity. This role supports the line team, follows safe practices, and teaches new apprentices.
Responsibilities- Construct, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution electrical lines.
- Provide technical skills for operation and maintenance of reliable electrical services, completing jobs with quality and timeliness.
- Lead the connection, disconnection, installation, removal, movement, and transfer of electrical devices on customer facilities (e.g., transformers, regulator banks, switches, and capacitor banks).
- Route or reroute power lines over, under, or around existing structures.
- Inspect and remove damaged power lines.
- Assist in carrying poles, digging holes, and performing related operations.
- Perform line switching or sectionalizing as directed.
- Provide on‑the‑job training to apprentices and crew members.
- Submit all required Apprentice Program documentation on time.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems on customer equipment.
- Operate bucket truck to jobsites and maintain truck stock.
- Investigate consumer complaints and make repairs to energized distribution lines.
- Perform any additional duties required or assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of lineman experience.
- Valid Class A CDL (required).
- Five or more years of experience.
- OSHA 10 certification.
This job operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work may be performed in extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. Lifting of up to 50 pounds is required. Good vision and precise hand‑eye coordination are necessary.
