Valor Healthcare is looking for a passionate Primary Care Physician to join our team at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Durango, CO. Valor operates more than 50 VA CBOCs in the United States as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. We provide a full range of medical services to veterans through the operations of CBOCs, tailored to meet the specific needs of local VA medical centers.

Our comprehensive set of services includes primary care, diagnostics, laboratory, telehealth, behavioral health, and more.

Responsibilities
  • As a Primary Care Physician, provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients with diseases and injuries seeking treatment in the clinic, as directed by physician or mid-level provider.
  • Collaborate with the core PACT Team (Primary Care Provider, RN and Medical Assistant) and expanded PACT Team including family/caregiver, VA, and community-based services involved in developing the patient care plan.
  • Actively diagnose and treat our veterans.
  • Examine patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders, determine nature and extent of injury/disorder, and perform comprehensive physical examinations.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans and assist in provision of continuity of care.
  • Order and perform diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe medications and recommend dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis.
  • Counsel patients on the use of prescription medications, educate patients, assess mental health issues, and provide routine health maintenance.
  • Evaluate patients’ records from medical providers outside the VA and work with these patients utilizing rules set forth by the VA for co-managed care.
  • Complete any and all clinical reminders due at the time of each patient visit.
  • Complete the documentation of the medical record within 24 hours of a patient encounter.
  • Solicit medical management consult or input when appropriate.
  • Comply with all VA guidelines regarding timely response to patient requests, alerts and notifications, consults, orders, lab results and diagnostic studies.
  • Comply with the VA formulary process and consult protocols.
  • Serve as a collaborative physician to mid-levels where appropriate and needed.
  • Comply with VA guidelines regarding clinical documentation, including the completion of all encounters by close of business.
  • Address the clinical needs of walk-in/triage/urgent care patients.
  • Comply with VA and company training requirements.
  • Comply with VA requirements related to women’s health certification and competencies, as well as any elements needed for maintenance of such certification.
  • Fulfill compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance and other related items.
  • Remain focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through the specified VA guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer service to veterans, colleagues, and clinic visitors.
  • Participate in the clinic’s outreach events to support enrollment initiatives.
  • Support patient enrollment and retention by guiding scheduling, follow-up visits or nurse visits as needed.
  • Support new clinical or operational initiatives and execute key strategic initiatives that drive Valor’s success.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred; specific requirements may vary based on individual VA contract.
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine Degree
  • Board certified in family practice or internal medicine
  • Must be credentialed and remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
  • Must maintain a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment, or in any U.S. state or territory, depending on VA contractual requirements.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS as specified by the VA contract
  • Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Energetic and optimistic demeanor
  • Strong service mentality and a focus on achieving defined service standards
  • This is considered a safety sensitive position

Final compensation will be based on relevant factors including work experience, skills, certifications, and internal equity.
