Materials Engineer, Process Engineer
Agile Space Industries is seeking an experienced Senior Materials and Process Engineer to own the material life‑cycle for our hypergolic propulsion systems. You will be the technical authority ensuring our propulsion products can withstand the aggressive chemical nature of storable propellants and the extreme environments of in‑space combustion. You will bridge the gap between product design and manufacturing, ensuring flight hardware is robust, compatible, and chemically stable.
Agile uses advanced additive metal manufacturing processes, such as laser powder bed fusion; this role will coordinate extensively with additive engineering teams to facilitate material‑process qualifications and bridge design techniques with processes.
- Select materials and processes for new designs.
- Support material qualification planning, powder/feedstock specification, and vendor qualification for new material processes.
- Develop and maintain enterprise material database information.
- Define, manage, and analyze testing campaigns to develop material and design allowables for metallic additive and wrought products.
- Develop, execute, and manage test plans for material characterization and component verification.
- Define and qualify special processes, both internal and supplied, including welding, high temperature coating, CT/NDE techniques, and heat treatment.
- Participate and lead activities for root‑cause analysis of manufacturing defects.
- Establish M&P standards and functional definition for a rapidly growing engineering organization.
- B.S. or advanced degree in related engineering or technical field.
- 10+ years of experience with product development.
- Deep expertise in metal fatigue, fracture mechanics, creep, and microstructural characterization.
- Familiar with industry standards (ASM, AMS, AWS, SAE).
- Experience with metal additive as‑built microstructure, post‑processing techniques, and material qualification.
- Experience with non‑conformance and failure analysis disposition.
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Experience applying statistical methods to internal data against external sources (e.g., MMPDS).
- Familiar with fatigue and notch crack growth propagation calculations.
- Experience with bipropellant or monopropellant compatibility.
- Hands‑on experience with rocket propulsion systems.
- Familiar with process‑structure‑property relationships as they impact static and dynamic mechanical properties.
- Familiar with compliance to NASA‑STD‑6016, NASA‑STD‑5009, and NASA‑STD‑6030.
- Familiar with qualifying vendors for special processes such as welding, coating, and heat treatment.
- Experience growing and leading new functions within engineering teams.
- Experience standing up a metallurgical laboratory.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Compensation & ScheduleExpected salary range: $100,000–$147,000 annually. Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and internal equity, typically around the mid‑range of this spectrum.
