Senior Internal Auditor

Responsible for autonomously delivering assigned internal audit engagements end-to-end in line with the approved Internal Audit Plan, applicable budget, Grindrod policies and procedures, and the Global Internal Audit Standards.

The Senior Internal Auditor provides independent assurance and advisory support across the Grindrod Group, including African entities, by assessing governance, risk management, internal controls, compliance, operational resilience, fraud risk indicators, financial reliability, and process effectiveness.

The role requires regular engagement with management and may require travel to countries such as Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia, Ghana and other jurisdictions where Grindrod operates.

Duties and Responsibilities

Communications and Reporting:

• Prepare internal audit reports based on the audit work performed.
• Discuss report items with management and obtain management comments.
• Working and communicating at all levels within Grindrod Ltd management in the performance of audits, consultations, and special projects, thereby building and maintaining effective partnerships with key stakeholders.
• Collate audit report information and prepare template with statistics and analysis.
• Preparation of audit committee reports.

Audit Management:

• Review working papers to ensure that documented tests support working paper conclusion.
• Ensure that queries from staff adequately resolved.
• Ensure they understand the areas and processes they are auditing.
• Creating and developing risk-based audit programmes from risk registers ACM.
• Responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of audit work, adherence to professional standards, and compliance with internal audit policies and procedures.
• Ensure the quality and accuracy of audit work, adherence to professional standards such as the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IIA Standards), and compliance with internal audit policies and procedures.
• Performing the full audit cycle including risk management and control management over operations' effectiveness, financial reliability and compliance with all applicable directives and regulations.
• IFC Process Documentation and Controls Workshops:
• Discussion with relevant management and document the process systems in detail, understanding the process, objectives, and risks.
• Preparing and facilitating workshops
• Creating control frameworks with identified process and control owners.
• Create management self-assessment for control framework.

Risk Based Audits (RBA) – Systems and Process Understanding:

• Discussion with relevant management and document the process system in detail, understanding the process, objectives, and risks.

Internal Audit Testing (IFC, RBA, and Adhoc reviews):

• Ensure that auditable transactions, processes, activities, and control systems are compliant with business policies and procedures.
• Ensure that industry best practice, including identifying and defining issues,
• Reviewing and analysing evidence and documenting of processes and procedures.
• Conduct special reviews as required from time to time and report on them.
• Performs audit procedures, including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing, and analysing evidence, and documenting client processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by The Institute of Internal Auditors.
• The individual must maintain comprehensive and well-organised audit documentation to support findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Training and Supervision:

• Supervise staff to ensure audited areas are understood and provide guidance where required to ensure adequate execution of assigned task.
• Walk the individual through the processes and explain the test procedures and ensure that employee understands his or her task.
• Monitor and supervise the individual to ensure that WP and tests are performed according to standards and coach individual to achieve the audit objectives.
• Participate in regular performance evaluations, feedback sessions, and professional development activities to support continuous improvement and growth within the Internal Audit function.

RBA – IA Plan Development:

• Demonstrate ability to proactively communicate with client to understand new key areas to be included in the annual audit plan. This can also be demonstrated while performing the fieldwork to understand any new areas that can be considered in the development of the audit plan.

Requirements:

Qualification / s

• BCOM (Accounting)/ BTech/Diploma in Internal Auditing

Job Specific Certifications

• Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation is preferred, or active progress towards the CIA designation.
• Additional certifications in data analytics, fraud, risk management, IT audit or related assurance disciplines are advantageous.

Professional Registrations

• Full member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
