Our client, a well-established player within the logistics and supply chain sector, is seeking a hands-on Accountant to join their finance team. This role is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys balancing operational finance responsibilities with financial reporting and compliance requirements.
As the Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, overseeing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting financial reporting activities, and ensuring adherence to IFRS and internal controls. You will work closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, operational teams, management, auditors, suppliers, and banking partners to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

Key Responsibilities- Maintain the General Ledger and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and allocated.
- Review and process monthly journal entries while ensuring accounting accuracy.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items timeously.
- Review Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable reconciliations for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and process depreciation calculations.
- Prepare accruals, prepayments, and month-end reporting schedules.
- Monitor revenue recognition and ensure compliance with IFRS requirements.
- Review cost allocations and ensure expenses are recorded in the correct accounting period.
- Support cash flow forecasting and financial planning activities.
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and supporting schedules.
- Provide technical accounting guidance to finance team members.
- Monitor operational costs and investigate material variances.
- Assist the Finance Manager with financial analysis and ad hoc reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting (minimum requirement).
- SAIPA, CIMA, ACCA, completed SAICA Articles, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification will be advantageous.
- 3-5 years' accounting experience within a medium to large organisation.
- Experience with in the logistics, transport, freight, shipping, warehousing, or supply chain sector will be advantageous.
- Proven experience in month-end reporting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and financial controls.
- Strong General Ledger accounting experience.
- Sound understanding of VAT, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
- Knowledge of IFRS fundamentals.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- Experience working with Sage and/or Cargo Wise.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
