Junior Quanity Surveyor-Durban SHERQ (Safety Health Risk Quality) ~ Training & Education
Umhlanga, Durban - Kwa Zulu Natal

JUNIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR-DURBAN

Purpose of Role

To assist in managing all costs relating to construction projects, from initial estimates through to final accounts, ensuring projects are completed within budget and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Management

    • Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects
    • Conduct cost analysis and provide value engineering recommendations
    • Monitor project costs and identify potential cost overruns
    • Assist in the preparation of interim valuations and payment certificates

Contract Administration

    • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of tender documents
    • Support the measurement and quantification of construction works
    • Help maintain accurate records of variations and change orders
    • Participate in contract negotiations and administration

Documentation & Reporting

    • Prepare monthly cost reports and financial statements
    • Maintain project documentation and filing systems
    • Assist in the preparation of final accounts
    • Support claims management and dispute resolution processes

Site Activities

    • Conduct site measurements and inspections
    • Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers
    • Attend site meetings and provide cost advice
    • Monitor progress and quality of works

Required Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in quantity surveying or cost management
    • Working knowledge of standard forms of contract (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, JCT)
    • Proficiency in measurement and estimating techniques

Technical Skills

    • Competent in relevant QS software and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Understanding of construction methods and materials
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
    • Knowledge of building regulations and construction standards
