About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Lead Quantity Surveyor to join their prominent construction firm in Durban. This senior role involves leading a team of surveyors and managing all cost-related aspects of major construction projects. You will be responsible for cost estimation, contract administration, procurement, and financial control, ensuring profitability and project viability. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional analytical skills, a deep understanding of construction economics, and the ability to provide strategic financial advice to project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of quantity surveyors, overseeing their professional development and workload.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documents for new projects.
  • Manage the procurement process, including tendering, negotiation, and contract award for materials and subcontractors.
  • Administer construction contracts, including variations, claims, and final accounts settlement.
  • Monitor project expenditures against the budget, identifying and reporting on cost variances and risks.
  • Conduct site visits to assess progress, verify valuations, and ensure cost control measures are effective.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team of surveyors.
  • Expertise in contract law, FIDIC conditions, and South African construction procurement practices.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with proficiency in relevant software.
  • Professional registration (e.g., Pr.QS) with a recognized professional body is essential.
