Project Architect - Mixed-Use Developments

Our client, a renowned architectural design firm with a strong presence in Durban, Kwa Zulu-Natal , is seeking a talented and driven Project Architect to lead the design and delivery of exciting mixed-use development projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on architecturally significant and commercially viable projects that contribute to the urban fabric of Durban and beyond. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from inception through to completion, ensuring design excellence, client satisfaction, and adherence to project timelines and budgets.

• Lead the design process for mixed-use development projects from concept design through to construction documentation and administration in Durban .
• Develop detailed architectural drawings, plans, elevations, sections, and specifications.
• Coordinate design efforts with engineers, consultants, and other project stakeholders to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Manage client communications and presentations, ensuring clear understanding and buy-in throughout the design process.
• Ensure compliance with local building codes, planning regulations, and zoning ordinances in Kwa Zulu-Natal .
• Oversee the construction phase, conducting site visits and responding to queries to ensure the project is built according to design intent.
• Review and approve shop drawings and material submittals.
• Mentor junior architects and provide technical guidance.
• Manage project schedules and contribute to budget control efforts.
• Proactively identify and resolve design and construction issues.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
• SACAP registration is required.
• A minimum of 7 years of post-graduate experience in architectural practice, with significant experience in mixed-use developments.
• Proficiency in architectural design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Sketch Up.
• Strong understanding of building materials, construction techniques, and relevant building regulations.
• Excellent design sensibility and technical detailing skills.
• Proven ability to manage projects effectively, including client liaison and team coordination.
• Experience with local planning authorities and approval processes in Durban .
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Demonstrated experience in navigating the complexities of mixed-use project delivery.
