    Lecturer in Nautical Studies (. M311)

    The Department of Maritime Studies invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of a Lecturer in the Seagoing Maritime Programme. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong interest in maritime education, training, and research.

    Minimum requirements
    • A Master’s degree in Maritime Studies
      , Nautical Science
      , or a closely related maritime discipline.
    • A minimum of 3 years of teaching and/or industry experience. (Seagoing experience relevant to the programme (Deck), supported by a valid or previously held Certificate of Competency (at Management Level
      ) issued in terms of STCW).
    Additional Information
    • Evidence of teaching, training, or facilitation in a maritime or higher education environment will be an advantage.
    • Commitment to postgraduate supervision, research, and professional development.
    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Lecture and assess modules within the Seagoing Maritime Programme (Deck) in accordance with STCW, SAMSA, and institutional requirements.
    • Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance, and programme accreditation processes.
    • Supervise postgraduate students and produce research outputs aligned with departmental goals.
    • Participate in departmental administration, industry engagement, and academic leadership activities.
    • Support simulation-based training and practical components where required.
