A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy has an exciting opportunity for a Pavement Design Engineer within its Transportation Department at the Durban office.

The Pavement Engineer will be responsible for the planning, analysis, design, and evaluation of pavement structures for road and transportation infrastructure projects. The role requires a high level of technical competence, professional judgement, and the ability to deliver quality designs in accordance with South African standards and best practice.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Registered with ECSA as a PrEng/PrTech (non-negotiable)
  • B.Eng/B.Sc Eng in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 6 years’ proven pavement engineering design experience, specifically within road and transportation infrastructure projects (non-negotiable)
  • SANRAL experience advantageous
  • Have experience with the following Computer Software Programs:
    • AutoCAD, Civil 3D
    • MS Office Suite
    • HDM4 experience will be advantageous
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Strong technical expertise in pavement materials, structural design, and performance evaluation.
  • Proficiency in pavement design software and engineering analysis tools.
  • Sound knowledge of South African pavement design standards and manuals.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Undertake detailed pavement engineering design for new roads, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects.
  • Conduct pavement investigations, condition assessments, and material evaluations.
  • Perform traffic analysis and pavement design using relevant national and international design methods.
  • Prepare technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Review and sign off pavement designs in accordance with ECSA requirements.
  • Provide technical input during tender evaluations and construction stages.
  • Liaise with clients, authorities, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance where required.
  • Ensure compliance with SANRAL, TMH, COLTO, and relevant industry standards.
