We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to join our team at MC Design & Contracting. The mechanical engineer will leverage extensive experience in designing, estimating, and project support within the automotive sector, utilising strong analytical and interpersonal skills to deliver accurate cost estimations and ensure project success. The role requires a high attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, effective problem-solving, and adaptability to changing working conditions, while maintaining professional work ethics and willingness to travel as needed.
- Attend site meetings and capture all relevant information for accurate cost estimation and communication with team members
- Review preliminary designs and drawings, if not available, compile concept designs on which to base cost estimates and attach to offer submissions
- Review client specifications and inform the Engineering Manager of any exceptional requirements that could significantly impact the project cost estimate. Ensure client requirements are properly addressed in the proposal
- Compile bill of quantities, labour requirements and timing plans.
- Utilise technical knowledge of mechanical work to conduct a variety of cost estimating activities.
- Attend project kick-off meetings with the project team to brief them on the costing methodology.
- Compile the costing of variation orders.
- Plan materials required for large-scale projects.
- Conduct site measurement valuations and manage all relevant documentation.
- Compile project documentation, including weld maps, datasheets, drawing updates, bill of materials, QCP’s, timing plans, progress reports and spare parts lists.
- Implement ISO policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Collaborate with the Contracts Manager and/or Supervisor on-site for design purposes.
- Compile detailed manufacturing drawings for production purposes.
- Ensure design drawings are current and up to date with the project installation.
- Perform additional tasks as required to support the employer's business operations.
- National Diploma or BTech in Mechanical Engineering
- Computer Literacy: Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Projects, Inventor/AutoCAD, and Outlook.
- Experience: Essential experience in designing, estimating, and project support.
- Industry
Experience:
3–5 years of experience in the automotive sector. - Licensing: Valid Code 08 Driver’s License and own vehicle.
