Role Overview
A dynamic property development company based in Umhlanga is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer with a specialisation in solar energy systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the design, feasibility, and implementation of solar PV and related electrical infrastructure across residential and commercial development projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong, early-career engineer who wants to grow within the renewable energy and property development space.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct technical feasibility studies for solar PV installations on new and existing property developments
- Perform energy yield analysis, site assessments, and preliminary system sizing
- Assist in the design and specification of solar PV systems (rooftop and ground-mounted)
- Collaborate with architects, project managers, and construction teams during project planning and execution
- Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and ROI/payback analyses for solar projects
- Support procurement processes by evaluating solar equipment and supplier proposals
- Ensure compliance with relevant South African electrical standards and municipal regulations
- Assist with project implementation, commissioning, and quality assurance of installed systems
- Monitor system performance and recommend optimisation improvements
- BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 3–4 years’ relevant experience (preferably in renewable energy, solar, or building services)
- Strong understanding of photovoltaic systems and basic electrical design principles
- Experience in feasibility studies, load calculations, or energy modelling
- Familiarity with South African electrical standards (SANS 10142)
- Proficient in MS Office; exposure to solar design software (e.g. PVsyst, Helioscope) advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary property development environment
- Passion for renewable energy and sustainable development
- Detail‑oriented with strong numerical ability
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Able to work independently while contributing to a team environment
- Eager to grow into a more senior technical or project leadership role
- Exposure to end‑to‑end property development projects
- Hands‑on experience in renewable energy integration within the built environment
