Hybrid Structural Engineer — Data Center Design; Global

AECOM is seeking a Engineer - Structures, Data Centers to be based in South Africa's Enterprise Capabilities office in Durban. This position will support a team locally based in South Africa and global teams. The role offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement.

EC partners with regional and global project teams to provide technical expertise, accelerate delivery and keep AECOM competitive in the industry.

• Under the supervision of a Senior Engineer, perform detailed structural designs and calculations for structural systems in commercial and industrial fields for both reinforced concrete and structural steel type structures.
• Assist with Revit modelling when required.
• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings.
• Be part of a project team, liaise with other professional team members and contractors.
• Attend planning, design and site meetings, and ad-hoc site inspections.
• Manage less complicated projects.
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.
• Promote compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities.
• Work will mostly be on international projects according to Eurocodes and American codes.

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in design of concrete and steel structures.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of structural analysis software like Tekla Structural Designer, Etabs, Robot, Idea Statica, etc.
• Revit Structures knowledge will be advantageous.
• Must have experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings.
• Finite element design of concrete structures, specifically flat slab design.
• Some experience in leading small design projects, including resource planning and design time frame estimates.
• B.Eng. Degree.
• M.Eng. Degree preferable.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and understand the importance of delivery and client satisfaction.
• Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills.
• Good commercial awareness / risk management skills.
