Civils Lead

Job Description

To establish and implement appropriate Civil Engineering standards to ensure compliance with statutory and SAPREF requirements. Takes responsibility for providing advice, guidance, and technical support to Maintenance and Engineering staff.

• Maintain the Terminal civil assets in a safe serviceable condition.
• Maintain a Risk Based Inspection Program and plan repair strategies and budgets accordingly.
• Control the expenditure of the approved budget whilst executing planned maintenance work.
• Comply with civil standards, ensuring their implementation and maintenance in line with best practices locally and internationally.
• Ensure that all civil assets meet and comply with SAPREF’s and statutory requirements.
• Be the focal point for all civil work including:
  • corrosion protection applications
  • hot and cold thermal insulation
  • remediation of polluted soil or groundwater
  • land surveying matters relating to properties owned or leased by the Terminal.
• Act as the contract holder to manage Civil Core Contracts and all Civil service providers.
• Facilities Management (Offices and Fleet).
• Manage consultants and civil third-party inspectors.
• Liaise with local and national authorities regarding natural water sources, land matters, and road and rail access to the Island View sites.
• Review and approve civil proposals for implementation by the Projects Team.

• Bachelor’s or BTech Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 5 to 7 years’ experience with at least 5 years in the Manufacturing Industry (added advantage will be Petrochemical Industry experience).
• Technical expertise:
  In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and standards.
• Leadership & management:
  Ability to lead & manage a team, delegate tasks, and make decisions.
• Project management:
  Experience with project planning, coordination, and execution.
• Communication & stakeholder management:
  Effective communication with team, customers, and other stakeholders.
• Problem‑solving & analytical skills:
  Ability to analyze problems and develop practical solutions.
• Time & resource management:
  Ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources.
• Collaboration & teamwork:
  Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
• Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
• Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., SANS, ISO).
• Experience with project delivery methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
