Job Description
These are fixed-term contract roles with a duration of 3–6 months, subject to operational requirements and potential early termination or extension.
These vacancies have no closing date; applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and SAPREF reserves the right to close the advert once suitable candidates are found.
The roles are temporary and intended to support ongoing Terminal Operations. Role Purpose

To carry out all operating duties associated with the safe, efficient and environmentally sound operation of the IV Terminal. These duties include responding to emergency conditions, preparation of equipment for maintenance, housekeeping and proactive monitoring of the area and its equipment in the respective area.

Key Accountabilities/Objectives
  • Maintain all equipment in assigned area in sound operating condition and perform basic care checks and report any equipment that requires maintenance attention. Generate maintenance service requests, including initial priority determination.
  • Perform duties required to achieve stable and reliable operations and maintain the safe operation of equipment within environmental and quality requirements including minor maintenance.
  • Execute site specific procedures as required.
  • Audit work permits within the assigned area and work with maintenance, project and other personnel to ensure the activities covered by the permit are undertaken in a safe manner.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance and project work and re-commission when complete. Complete isolations in accordance with LOTO isolation procedures.
  • Carry out shift handover in a detailed and comprehensive manner.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the operating area to ensure safe working conditions. Recognizes hazards and takes necessary action to eliminate or mitigate the hazard.
  • Reports all incidents, injuries and near misses in accordance with procedures.
  • Participation in incident reporting and incident investigation and review.
  • Is responsible for own personal safety and intervenes to assist others with meeting safety requirements.
  • Shutdown equipment & plant to specified state as per procedures & timescale.
  • During an emergency follow appropriate procedures and after assessment of situation raise the alarm in a prescribed manner.
  • Samples and analyses product streams as per sample schedule and communicate results to console operator.
  • Reports all deviations from procedures and working standards to Operations Team Leader.
  • Protects people from process by safe work practices & plant operation.
  • Raises the alarm in the event of fire on plant & executes fire containment until shift fire crew arrives. Thereafter assists in plant shutdown as per instructions.
  • Trains Trainees on plant and reports on Trainees progress to Operations Team Leader.
  • Performance meets environmental and quality requirements.
  • Emergencies are contained. Damage and disruption are minimized.
  • Preparation of equipment for maintenance and project work is done in safe and timely manner.
  • To conduct BBS, PTW audit, PSF and self-verification audits.
Minimum Qualifications , Years of Work Experience
  • Certified Operator or Process Technician
  • 4-8 years’ experience in a petrochemical operations environment
  • Must have driver’s license
  • Tank farm, shipping or oil movement experience will be advantageous.
Skills
  • Have good communication skills and must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Have good problem solving and decision-making skills and be able to operate effectively within a complex environment and under pressure.
  • Demonstrate initiative enabling him/her to develop and manage more efficient ways of achieving set objectives.
  • Have an awareness and appreciation for health, safety and environmental issues.
  • Must be willing to progress in training and skill improvement program.
