Purpose of the Role
To achieve excellence in chemical engineering and sugar process performance at the raw sugar mills and the refinery. This entails: ensuring the best manufacturing practices are maintained at the mills by means of regular technical visits and audits and providing technical assistance to factories that are encountering processing, recovery or quality problems.
Key Responsibilities- Mill Performance Improvements
- To lead factory performance initiatives as required at the factories. - Process Optimisation
- To routinely measure the process performance of specific unit operations, identifying areas for improvement and develop plans to optimise unit operation performances. - Specialist Support
- To ensure factories operate per best practice in certain pre-selected areas of specialisation ie. Crystallisation. - Energy Efficiency
- To develop and implement initiatives to improve energy efficiency - Environmental
- Drive plans to reduce liquid effluent discharge from the factories and implement measures to meet the legislation for both liquid effluent and air emissions.
- A BSc / BTech or equivalent qualification in Chemical Engineering
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in both operations and in technical support roles.
- Process a certain level of specialist knowledge in one-or-more unit operations which sets the candidate apart from the level of knowledge that would be required from a normal operational function.
- Process design experience, in terms of flowsheet development; mass and energy balances; and process equipment design.
- Results focus – Demonstrates courage, drive and determination to achieve results.
- Communication – communicates effectively and shares information and knowledge using appropriate channels and technology to both individuals and groups
- Preference will be given to an Employment Equity candidate in line with SA legislation.
