Electrical Engineer - Power Generation

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join their operations team within the Energy Sector, based in Durban. This role focuses on the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems within power generation facilities, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety. You will play a key part in supporting the critical infrastructure that powers the region, working on a variety of projects and operational challenges.

• Design, develop, and maintain electrical systems and equipment for power generation plants, including generators, switch gear, transformers, and distribution networks.
• Perform electrical system troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis to resolve operational issues promptly.
• Conduct electrical safety inspections and ensure compliance with all national and international safety standards and regulations relevant to the Energy Sector .
• Prepare technical specifications, engineering drawings, and maintenance documentation for electrical installations and upgrades.
• Collaborate with project managers, technicians, and external vendors on electrical aspects of new installations, retrofits, and maintenance programs.
• Assist in the commissioning of new electrical equipment and systems, verifying performance against design specifications in Durban .

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP) and familiarity with SCADA systems.
• Solid understanding of electrical codes, standards, and safety practices within the Energy Sector.
• Experience with high-voltage systems, protective relaying, and motor control centers.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to engineering challenges in Durban.
