About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Chief Mine Surveyor to oversee all surveying activities for their operations near Durban . This senior position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all underground and surface surveys, maintaining mine plans, and providing essential spatial data for operational planning and resource management. You will lead a team of surveyors, implement advanced surveying technologies, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
This role demands exceptional attention to detail, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of mining operations to support safe and efficient extraction.
- Manage and execute all surface and underground survey operations, including setting out, cross-sections, and volumetric calculations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date mine plans , ensuring they reflect the current state of the mine.
- Implement and manage the use of modern surveying equipment and technologies, such as GPS, total stations, and laser scanners.
- Train, mentor, and supervise a team of mine surveyors, ensuring high standards of work quality and safety.
- Liaise with mine management, engineers, and geologists to provide critical spatial information for planning and decision-making.
- Ensure all surveying work complies with legal requirements and industry best practices in South Africa .
- Professional Land Surveyor qualification or equivalent recognized certification.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mine surveying, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Expertise in using surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, Surpac, Deswik) and hardware.
- Thorough understanding of underground and surface mining methods and their surveying implications.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and surveying standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
