About the Role
Our client, a prominent player in the building services industry, is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in HVAC systems for their Durban office. This role involves the design, specification, and implementation of advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning solutions for a wide range of commercial and industrial projects. You will work closely with architects, project managers, and construction teams to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with building codes.

- Design and engineer HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, optimizing for performance and energy efficiency.
- Produce detailed HVAC schematics, equipment schedules, and control system designs using CAD software.
- Perform load calculations, airflow analysis, and thermal modeling to ensure system effectiveness.
- Specify HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, and associated components, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
- Collaborate with site engineers and contractors during installation to resolve design-related issues.
- Stay abreast of the latest HVAC technologies, building codes, and energy efficiency standards.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC system design.
- Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, HAP).
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles related to HVAC.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and energy regulations.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
