Process Plant Metallurgist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Process Plant Metallurgist to optimize and manage their mineral processing facilities in the Durban area. This role is critical for maximizing recovery rates and ensuring the efficient and cost-effective processing of mined materials. You will work closely with plant operators and engineers to troubleshoot operational issues, implement process improvements, and maintain high standards of quality and safety.

The successful candidate will leverage their deep understanding of metallurgical principles to enhance plant performance and contribute to the profitability of this key Kwa Zulu-Natal based operation.

• Monitor and optimize plant operations to achieve target recovery rates and product quality.
• Conduct metallurgical test work and analysis to identify areas for process improvement.
• Troubleshoot process upsets and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and losses.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all processing units.
• Collaborate with the maintenance and engineering teams to ensure plant equipment reliability.
• Manage chemical consumables and ensure efficient utilization within the processing plant.

• Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in mineral processing plant operations.
• Strong understanding of flotation, leaching, and other relevant mineral processing techniques.
• Proficiency in metallurgical accounting and data analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
