Industrial Control Systems Technician

Our client, a major player in the automation and manufacturing sector, is seeking a skilled Industrial Control Systems Technician for a contract position, supporting operations across Durban. This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and other industrial automation hardware and software. You will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation of production lines and automated processes.

• Install, configure, and test industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
• Perform routine maintenance and preventative servicing on control hardware and associated equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues within control systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Develop, modify, and debug PLC ladder logic and other control programming languages as required.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate new control systems and upgrade existing infrastructure.
• Manage software backups and version control for control system programs.
• Ensure all control system installations and modifications adhere to safety standards and electrical codes.
• Provide technical support and training to plant personnel on the operation of control systems.
• Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and maintenance logs.
• Respond to urgent system failures and implement timely repairs to minimize downtime.

• Proven experience as an Industrial Control Systems Technician or similar role, with a focus on PLC and HMI systems.
• Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting various PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron).
• Experience with HMI software and SCADA system configuration.
• Solid understanding of industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams.
• Experience with industrial automation hardware and sensors.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• A relevant technical qualification or trade certification in industrial electronics or automation.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.
