Industrial Automation Technician

Our client is a leading industrial manufacturing company with state-of-the-art facilities in Durban, Kwa Zulu-Natal
. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Industrial Automation Technician to join our dedicated engineering team. This hybrid role will involve both on-site troubleshooting and maintenance within our production facility and project-based work that can be managed remotely. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and upgrade of our automated production lines and control systems. You will collaborate closely with production, engineering, and maintenance departments to minimize downtime and enhance productivity. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical aptitude and a passion for industrial technology.

• Install, configure, and maintain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems associated with industrial automation equipment.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on all automated machinery to ensure optimal performance and reduce unscheduled downtime.
• Analyze production data and system performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and efficiency gains.
• Develop and implement modifications to existing automation systems to enhance functionality or meet new production requirements.
• Work with engineers on the design and integration of new automation solutions and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies related to industrial automation and machinery operation.
• Document all maintenance activities, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.

• Diploma or National Certificate in Industrial Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with industrial automation systems, PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), and HMIs.
• Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control system logic, and troubleshooting methodologies.
• Experience with SCADA systems and data acquisition is a plus.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing faults in industrial machinery.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Good communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues to non-technical personnel.
• Willingness to adapt to a hybrid work model, balancing on-site duties with remote project tasks as required.
