Specialist Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Design

. This role is pivotal in delivering complex mechanical systems for a range of commercial and industrial projects. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of HVAC system design, from initial concept development and detailed engineering to client consultation and project oversight. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of thermodynamic principles, air flow dynamics, and energy efficiency standards relevant to HVAC systems.

• Lead the mechanical design of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
• Perform detailed calculations for heating, cooling loads, duct sizing, and pipe sizing.
• Develop comprehensive HVAC system designs, including schematics, layouts, and specifications, using AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
• Conduct energy modeling and analysis to ensure systems meet or exceed efficiency targets.
• Select appropriate HVAC equipment (chillers, boilers, air handling units, pumps, etc.) based on project requirements.
• Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and other consultants to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, tender documentation, and project cost estimates related to HVAC systems.
• Oversee site inspections and provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases.
• Stay current with HVAC industry best practices, codes, and new technologies.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers in HVAC system design principles.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in HVAC design, preferably within a consulting engineering firm or large development group.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and specialized HVAC design software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700).
• Strong knowledge of building codes (e.g., SANS 10400) and international HVAC standards.
• Experience with energy modeling and sustainable design principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong communication and client management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience in the Durban area or similar urban environments is advantageous.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa
