Overview
A Senior DBA Level 1 takes on complex database management, including advanced performance tuning, implementing robust disaster recovery strategies, and collaborating with development teams. Proficient in T-SQL, they create and optimize stored procedures and support junior DBAs in troubleshooting issues requiring deeper database development expertise.
Responsibilities- Lead advanced tuning and optimization efforts, analysing database performance and refining queries and indexes for peak efficiency.
- Design and implement reliable backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies to support business continuity.
- Collaborate with developers, using T-SQL to create stored procedures, functions, and complex queries, supporting project goals.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs, troubleshooting complex issues and offering skill development support.
- Perform data integrity checks, maintenance tasks, and ensure database reliability through proactive monitoring.
- Coordinate database migrations and system upgrades, minimizing downtime and ensuring data consistency.
- Develop documentation and guidelines for database maintenance, recovery procedures, and troubleshooting protocols.
- Engage in database capacity planning, estimating future data storage needs based on growth and usage trends.
- Manage database partitioning, indexing, and table structures to optimize storage and query performance.
- Conduct security reviews, monitoring for unauthorized access and enforcing compliance with security standards.
Required Experience:
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements and audit logging (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Advanced T-SQL skills for developing complex stored procedures, functions, and optimizing queries.
- Strong knowledge of backup and recovery techniques, with experience implementing disaster recovery plans.
- Proficiency in performance tuning and indexing strategies for high-efficiency database operations.
- Familiarity with high-availability configurations (clustering, mirroring, replication).
- Experience in delivering database migrations or major upgrades.
Nice to haves:
- Knowledge of database design and data modeling for efficient data structures.
- Experience with automation tools and scripting for database management tasks.
- Exposure to cloud database platforms and hybrid cloud environments.
- Solid understanding of database security protocols, including encryption and access controls.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements and audit logging (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Database administration certification such as Microsoft Certified:
Azure Database Administrator Associate or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP).
