The Accessibility Unit of the Acquisitions & Continuing Resources department is responsible for conducting usability testing and evaluating the design of the library’s subscribed information technology resources, while maintaining accurate records of identified digital accessibility issues. The nature of the Accessibility Unit’s work requires great attention to detail, comfort with learning new technology, and excellent recordkeeping, in order to maximize access to these resources by users who may have vision, hearing, mobility, or neurodiversity challenges.

The GSLA will learn the basics of web accessibility testing, while being trained to independently assess and compile reports on electronic resources, using manual keyboard testing, automated code checkers, and screen reader software, flagging high-priority obstacles. This is an on-campus position at Hodges Library.

  • Evaluate web design by testing access without use of a mouse
  • Evaluate web design by testing access using screen reader software
  • Use automated code checkers to identify other high-priority accessibility issues
  • Compile reports of findings and document workflows
  • Special projects and various miscellaneous duties
  • Current UT graduate student.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of both Windows and Apple computers and tablets
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to pay close attention to details
  • Ability to complete duties without close supervision
  • Graduate student in Information Sciences, Computer Science, or Instructional Technology.
  • Some basic familiarity with web technologies (e.g., looking at - but not necessarily creating - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript)
