Our client is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist specializing in Risk Management to join their innovative team in Durban . This role is critical for developing and implementing sophisticated analytical models to identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks. You will leverage advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to enhance risk detection capabilities and drive strategic decision-making within the banking sector.
This is an on-site position, requiring close collaboration with risk officers, compliance teams, and business units to ensure robust risk frameworks are in place.
- Design, develop, and deploy predictive models for credit risk, market risk, and operational risk.
- Utilize machine learning techniques and statistical analysis to identify emerging risk patterns.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to define risk metrics and reporting requirements.
- Validate and back-test risk models to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
- Communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences in Durban .
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices in risk management and data science.
- Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Finance.
- Proven experience (4+ years) in data science, with a focus on risk modeling in the financial industry.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, and experience with SQL.
- Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques.
- Experience with risk management frameworks and regulatory requirements (e.g., Basel).
