Job Overview
- To manage the Process Department to perform its function of facilitating a world class manufacturing environment and to ensure the achievement of production and quality targets. The position reports to the Plant Manager
- BTech / Degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (NQF
7) - 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience in Automotive Manufacturing / Manufacturing environment
- To improve the factory buildings, equipment, materials and processes to improve profit, productivity, safety and quality
- Champion for the Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) within the plant, ensure a CIP team is active within the plant
- Ensure projects are monitored against deliverables agreed by the CIP team
- Ensure CIP log is maintained
- Provide monthly report of achieved progress vs. target in CIP for management pack
- Ensure standard cycle times are maintained and updated for all production processes
- Ensure Visual Work Instructions (WI) are developed by the Process Team for all process within the plant
- Ensure WI archive is maintained and updated within the plant quality system
- Ensure approved WI’s are available for display in the plant
- Provide support for customer and internal sample and production trials
- Ensure the execution and administration of Change Requests in the plant is maintained
- Ensure that Statistical Process Control requirements of the plant are met
- Ensure that robotic water-jet programs within the plant are implemented, maintained and backed-up
- Supports problem solving on Process/Equipment to rectify problems or improve process
- Promotes good housekeeping and safety
- Perform routine operations on manufacturing equipment
- Respond to changes in the manufacturing processes
- Understand machinery and raw material technologies
- Set and operate equipment with simple control systems
- Full management and support in product development and customer projects
- Manage equipment plan for incoming projects
- Investigate new technologies relevant to the production processes within the plant
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to management
- Ensure current and future plant layout is available
- Manage implementation of any plant layout plans
- Interact with internal and external customers in relation to process issues
- Interact with internal suppliers. Including raw material suppliers, equipment suppliers, service providers and contractors
- Manage suppliers in regard to new process development, monitoring delivery times, costs and quality
- Coach and counsel employees to ensure improved and sustained performance levels
- Ensure discipline is maintained in the department – manage absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.
- Resolve grievances & disputes
- Plans and provides for on the job training and multi-skilling of plant teams on a continuous basis
