Postdoctoral Fellow - Computational Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and driven Postdoctoral Fellow to join their dynamic Computational Biology research group in Durban . This role focuses on developing and applying computational models to understand complex biological systems, with a particular emphasis on infectious diseases prevalent in the region. You will collaborate closely with experimental biologists and clinicians to translate biological questions into computational frameworks and analyze large-scale omics data.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-impact publications and present their work at international conferences, playing a key role in advancing our understanding of disease mechanisms.

• Develop and implement computational algorithms and statistical models for analyzing high-dimensional biological data (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics).
• Design and conduct computational experiments to investigate disease pathogenesis and identify potential therapeutic targets.
• Collaborate with experimental teams to validate computational predictions using wet-lab techniques.
• Contribute to the development of databases and software tools for biological data sharing and analysis.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at scientific meetings.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in computational biology, bioinformatics, and relevant biological domains.

• PhD in Computational Biology , Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or C++.
• Experience with machine learning techniques and statistical modeling.
• Familiarity with biological databases (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl) and omics data analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a strong scientific curiosity.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
