Research Assistant - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant to support their cutting-edge Genomics research team based in Durban . This role is essential for the day-to-day operations of the lab, involving the execution of experimental protocols and data management. You will work closely with Principal Investigators and Postdoctoral Researchers, contributing directly to projects aimed at unraveling the genetic basis of various traits and diseases.

• Perform routine molecular biology and genomics laboratory procedures, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and library preparation.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, such as sequencers and automated liquid handlers.
• Accurately record experimental data, manage sample inventories, and ensure proper lab organization.
• Assist in the preparation of reagents and solutions according to established protocols.
• Support senior researchers with experimental setup and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment.

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field.
• Prior laboratory experience, preferably in a research setting, with hands-on experience in genomics workflows.
• Proficiency with basic laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
• Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to follow complex protocols accurately and independently.
