Research Technician - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Research Technician with a specialization in Genomics to join their cutting-edge laboratory in Durban . This hands-on role is crucial for supporting ongoing research projects focused on genetic analysis and sequencing. You will be responsible for executing a variety of laboratory procedures, ensuring data accuracy and contributing to the successful advancement of our scientific objectives.

• Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures related to DNA/RNA extraction , library preparation for next-generation sequencing (NGS), and PCR-based assays.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as sequencers, PCR machines, and centrifuges, adhering to strict quality control standards.
• Accurately record experimental data, results, and observations in electronic laboratory notebooks and databases.
• Assist in the preparation of reagents, solutions, and experimental setups under the guidance of senior researchers.
• Contribute to troubleshooting experimental protocols and identifying potential sources of error to ensure data integrity.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace, adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related life science discipline.
• Hands-on experience with fundamental molecular biology techniques , particularly DNA extraction and PCR.
• Familiarity with genomics workflows, including sample handling for NGS, is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate laboratory records and following detailed protocols.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in executing experiments.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
