I’m working with a global technology leader in smart metering and utility solutions, delivering products across international markets. They’re continuing to invest heavily in their next generation of electricity and water metering products, alongside a new handheld customer interface and major data-focused initiatives planned for 2026
The RoleThis is an entrepreneurial-esc role, with the excitement of a start-up in an established stable business. The successful candidate will be the main contributor to the code bases across a range of platforms, some already existing and others that need to be built from scratch. You will be responsible for making decisions on the best suited frameworks and technologies to use, have heavy involvement with architecture and manage a team of external long-term contractors.
You will work very closely with the internal platform architect, project manager and QAs who are all part of the internal platform team.
- Lead the technical design and delivery of enterprise software solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and code reviews for the external development team.
- Drive best practices across software architecture, coding standards, testing and Dev Ops.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure delivery milestones are achieved, proactively identifying and mitigating technical risks.
- Design scalable, secure and high-performing applications using modern .NET technologies.
- Sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives and backlog refinement.
- Ensure software quality through robust testing, validation and deployment practices.
- Support production environments, troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide guidance to support teams.
- Produce technical documentation and deployment guidance where required.
- Work closely with customers and stakeholders to define technical solutions and resolve design challenges.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience developing enterprise software applications using Microsoft technologies.
- Previous experience leading development teams or acting as a senior technical mentor.
- Strong experience with:
- React/Angular & Typsecript
- SQL Server, T-SQL and Entity Framework
- Azure Dev Ops and Git
- Strong understanding of secure coding practices, application performance and software design patterns.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Metering or Ultility industry experience.
- Experience with Azure cloud services.
- Docker and Kubernetes.
- Messaging technologies (RabbitMQ, NServiceBus or similar).
- Mobile development experience with Flutter very advantageous.
- Experience integrating with hardware, networking protocols or IoT devices.
- A collaborative technical leader who enjoys mentoring and developing others, but is also very comfortable working independently.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Commercial awareness with a focus on delivering value to customers.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
- Comfortable balancing hands-on development with technical leadership and strategic planning.
