It has 1,048 licensed inpatient beds and offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, a major surgery suite with 65 operating rooms, an endo‑surgery center, and a separate outpatient surgical department with nine operating rooms and extensive diagnostic and interventional radiology facilities.

Duke Regional has 388 inpatient beds and offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and diagnostic services including orthopedics, weight‑loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services. It also provides care at the Duke Rehabilitation Institute, Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center, Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center Arringdon, Health Services Center, and Duke Behavioral Health Center North Durham.

Duke Raleigh Hospital, part of Duke Health since 1998, has 204 inpatient beds and offers a comprehensive array of services including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care.
Hospitalist physicians in the Hospital Medicine Department are clinicians and/or clinician educators who provide clinical care for patients admitted at Duke University Health System hospitals. They support surgical and specialty services through consultative general internal medicine practice and teach staff, graduate medical trainees, and medical students on inpatient educational rotations.

- Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, ongoing treatment and clinical management of patients
- Make referrals for consultation when necessary
- Direct care planning
- Order medications and therapeutic treatments when warranted
- Authorize transfers
- Conduct risk assessment
- Determine readiness and plan for discharge for inpatients under your care
- Communicate effectively with patient families and advocates to ensure an open, visitor‑friendly environment
- Maintain ongoing communication with community primary care physicians who routinely manage patients currently in your care
- Perform day‑to‑day patient contact, rounding and care management that encourages professional input from all members of the patient care team
- Complete all clinical and professional records and documentation accurately and in a timely manner to satisfy local, state, and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements
- Work to create a positive work culture within cross‑departmental teams
- Align your work with other Hospital Medicine initiatives
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
- Clinical training and skills as mandated by the American Board of Internal Medicine for General Internal Medicine physicians
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- For clinician educators – strong clinical teaching skills
- MD or DO from an accredited medical program
- Completion of advanced graduate medical education in Internal Medicine with board eligibility or board certification in internal medicine
- Clinical and teaching experience in an inpatient healthcare environment, including experience in both large academic medical centers and community hospitals (preferred)
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in North Carolina, federal and state prescriptive authority, and board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine per Duke University Health System Medical Staff Bylaws
