Summary

The Oral Maxillofacial Surgery dental officer serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative or preventive measures. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until 01/07/2026.

Duties
  • Clinical Responsibilities (75%-85% of time):
    Provides a full range of services including assessment and using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care in the subspecialty.
  • Performs appropriate evaluations for patients.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions to units/programs in the Medical Center to which they are assigned and has clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment and medication evaluation and management.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to enhance coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Orders diagnostic tests, discriminates between normal and abnormal findings, and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
  • Ensures that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice psychiatric guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPAA policies.
  • Specific tasks are itemized in the Credentialing and Privileging package.
  • Engages in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Provides leadership guidance and consultation to staff on units to which assigned.
  • Supervises and teaches house staff and other trainees assigned to unit as appropriate.
  • Consults with other Medical Center staff and trainees and assists in implementation of treatment plans as appropriate for their patients.
  • Responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system.
