Position Overview

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is a historically Black university in Durham, North Carolina. The Office of Faculty Professional Development (OFPD) serves faculty with programs designed to improve instruction in higher education. The OFPD is a Title III Activity supported by Title III‑B funding, and its mission is to encourage excellence in teaching through course development, research‑based instructional strategies, and faculty support services.

Purpose of Position

The Assistant Coordinator assists with oversight of OFPD operations, including developing and delivering training, workshops, mentoring, and consultations that enhance faculty professional growth in teaching, research, leadership, and career advancement. The role supports faculty development programming, curriculum design, technology integration, assessment, and evaluation of program impact.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Assistant Coordinator should have extensive knowledge of andragogy and pedagogical practices, strong presentation and engagement skills in virtual and face‑to‑face settings, exceptional interpersonal and technology skills, and the ability to use instructional technologies and social media platforms. The role requires a collaborative approach to talent‑development processes that strengthen faculty efficacy and institutional effectiveness.

Minimum Education / Experience
  • Master’s degree.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in faculty development supporting college‑level teaching.
  • Experience in faculty professional development at the university or collegiate level.
Preferred
  • Background with a STEM focus and doctoral degree.
  • At least one (1) year of experience managing and supporting reporting requirements for Title III funded programs.

    • Create campus teaching initiatives to support innovative teaching, learning, assessment, and use of technologies in high‑D, high‑F grades and withdrawal‑rate courses.
    • Develop instructional sessions for early‑career faculty and adjunct instructors.
    • Introduce NCCU community to emerging technologies and innovations for faculty teaching.
  • Faculty Development:
    • Establish and present workshops and trainings that promote active learning and student engagement.
