[2026 - 2027] KIPP Durham Elementary Multilingual Teacher (K-5)
Join KIPP Durham Elementary, a tuition‑free, college‑preparatory public charter school serving approximately 3,000 students in K‑12 throughout Durham, Halifax, Northampton and Mecklenburg counties. KIPP North Carolina (KIPP NC) is committed to improving the life outcomes of North Carolina’s children through research‑based, rigorous curricula and a career‑focused environment for teachers.
OverviewThis position supports students learning English as a second language through Structured English Immersion and small‑group interventions. You will collaborate with a high‑performing team, deliver curriculum, and build a positive classroom culture.
Your Responsibilities- Review, internalize, and prepare KIPP NC approved curriculum for K-8 Math (Open Up Resources), K-8 ELA (Fish Tank), K-8 Science (Amplify), and 9-12 All Subjects.
- Practice lesson delivery, create exemplar responses, and use assessment data to drive instruction and make lesson adjustments.
- Maintain accurate gradebook and data tracking systems.
- Embody and maintain school values, policies and culture, and build positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and staff.
- Participate in daily school functions, including arrival, advisory/circle time, lunch duty, recess and dismissal.
- Collaborate with your coach to identify growth areas and implement weekly feedback.
- Attend Professional Development Tuesdays & Wednesdays 3:30‑5:00 pm each week.
- Attend other required events such as Back‑to‑School Night, Parent‑Teacher Conferences, and Report Card Conferences.
- Deep commitment to the mission of KIPP NC and to improving lives of kids from marginalized communities.
- Valid North Carolina teaching license, or willingness to pursue state certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant content area.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Pass Criminal Background Check.
Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap. - Zest, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor.
- Physical qualifications: stand for 8+ hours/day, lift up to 50 lb, deescalate escalated child situations.
- At least 2 full years of teaching experience with Multilingual / English as a Second Language Learners.
- Experience writing ML Plans.
- Experience with ELLevation software.
Experience teaching in a high‑performing charter school or schools with a high population of students on free/reduced lunch. - Demonstrated success in raising achievement levels for traditionally under‑served students.
- Praxis exams passed or expected to pass by September 2024.
- Hours:
Monday, Thursday, Friday 7:30 am‑3:30 pm;
Tuesday & Wednesday 7:30 am‑5:00 pm. - Curriculum, materials, and resources are provided.
- All teachers receive a classroom stipend to offset out‑of‑pocket costs.
- Monthly Teacher Work Days include PD, data analysis, and other learning‑advancing events.
