Friends School (CFS) is seeking a part-time Certified Academic or Executive Functioning Coach to support Middle School and Upper School students as they work toward independence in essential life and learning skills. The coach will provide individualized guidance in key executive functioning domains, like planning, prioritizing, organization, time management, task initiation, and goal‑directed persistence. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with middle school students and teenagers, their advisors and teachers, and their families.
Carolina Friends School provides tutoring spaces, handles payments and fees, and supplies materials as necessary.
- Deliver a learning plan that is grounded in the mission and philosophy of CFS
- Develop, support, and maintain each individual student’s growth and interest in the designated tutoring topic or area of concern
- Promote and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment
- Plan, develop, and deliver individualized curriculum that will support the student in their particular area of need
- Engage and work with CFS staff as needed to support the student
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians, advisors, and classroom teachers
- Provide a narrative evaluation of progress each trimester
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in the content area of focus
- Experience teaching or tutoring students of various ages
- Demonstration of a familiarity and comfort with a variety of pedagogical approaches
- Effective and clear communication skills, both written and verbal
- Joy in working with ages 9‑18, and demonstrating of an understanding of their developmental needs (intellectual, social, emotional)
- Demonstration of an understanding of and strong affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission
- Demonstration of a willingness to understand and explore how power and inequality influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and learning and physical disabilities impact our students and families
- Demonstration of a willingness to use existing school learning applications
- Possession of a commitment to continuous professional growth and an enthusiasm for learning in community
- Ability to meet varied demands with integrity, energy, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor
