Overview
Senior Maintenance Technician is a member of the Engineering team providing technical support to the manufacturing site. The site includes clean utilities, facilities equipment, manufacturing production equipment, quality labs and a warehouse. The candidate will support the installation, operation, maintenance and/or troubleshooting of utility and clean utility equipment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, waste deactivation systems, HVAC, clean steam and WFI.
The role develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Preventative Maintenance (PM) plans as requested, manages SAP transactions, supports validation testing, participates in root cause investigations, and drives change control activities. Actively supports and embraces an inclusive team culture with significant interaction with operations, quality, automation, technology, and other groups.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks and troubleshoot complex process systems.
- Maintain Utility Equipment (boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, waste deactivation systems).
- Maintain Clean Utility Equipment (HVAC, clean steam generators, water‑for‑injection systems, reverse osmosis skids, compressed gas systems).
- Maintain Automated Systems (DCS, PLC).
- Maintain Clean‑In‑Place (CIP) Systems.
- Support Maintenance Equipment (tools and calibration equipment).
- Assist with calibration, automation, validation, and additional testing as required.
- Make decisions guided by policies, procedures, and the business plan; receive guidance from manager.
- Contribute to the performance and results of the department.
- Identify and resolve technical and operational problems; collaborate with peers across inter‑related units.
- Assist in identifying, developing, and implementing new systems that enhance operations and/or engineering processes.
- Adapt and implement departmental plans and priorities based on the division scorecard to address local business, service, and operational challenges.
- Develop and execute engineering change requests (ECRs).
- Examine issues from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, automation, equipment, process, people) to identify root cause.
- Provide input to investigate deviations; interface with approvers.
- Perform efficient and safe maintenance and repair of equipment using Hazardous Energy Control Procedures.
- Wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, hard hats, safety harnesses, etc.).
- Perform clean‑room gowning during job duties.
- Support safety initiatives, including shop floor audits, lockout/tagout and Hazardous Energy Control Procedure updates.
- Interface with other departments, contractors, and disciplines on scheduling repairs and maintenance of equipment/utility systems.
- Support daily meetings to facilitate flow of information up/down the organization.
- Escalate issues as needed to ensure the right support/awareness is given as they arise.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) during tours to provide area/process overview information to visitors/auditors upon request.
- Provide training for system maintenance as needed.
- Order and maintain spare parts for assigned process equipment.
- Ensure inventory transactions are complete, timely, and accurate.
- Recognize and communicate opportunities for cost savings.
- 4 years of plant maintenance experience with knowledge of technical craft skills (instrumentation, electrical, plumbing, advanced mechanical, HVAC, and/or multi‑stage refrigeration systems).
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements in accordance with GMP manufacturing operations.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Physical requirements – must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, work on platforms and equipment above floor level. Walking, bending, crawling, and stooping are required.
- Proficiency in computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), PLCs, and CMMS/Calibration/Maintenance Database Systems.
- Effective maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills required.
