Associate Distribution Engineer

Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract to hire opportunity with our client in Durham, North Carolina
.

The role involves supporting electric utility design engineering projects, ensuring high-quality work, and working both in the field and office environments. Candidates will gain experience in various areas including GIS design, power calculations, and compliance with industry standards.

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems from 4kV through 138kV
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements in dense urban environments
• Support the development of work permits, easements, and ROW applications
• Design mainline vault medium voltage switch gear, network systems, and distribution system protection
• Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for pole loading and conductor sags
• Develop permitting documents for various authorities having jurisdiction
• Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and propose mitigation strategies

• Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel; willingness to perform fieldwork as needed
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion

• Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
• Experience using CAD tools, Micro Station and/or GIS
• Knowledge of NESC and design standards
• Professional attributes such as a collaborative attitude, positive demeanor, and professional appearance
