Payroll Tax Specialist

• Complete state and local tax account reviews, establishing new registrations and closing obsolete accounts
• Reconcile outstanding state deposits and filings, addressing any delinquent items or notices
• Provide comprehensive support for the year-end W-2 process, including validation and coordination with payroll vendors
• Document all changes and procedures for handover to internal payroll and HR teams
• Deliver a final project report summarizing work completed and recommending process improvements

• Minimum of 5 years of payroll tax or payroll operations experience, with multistate exposure
• Proven experience handling state tax registrations, SUI accounts, and W-2 year-end processes
• Strong familiarity with Workday payroll systems and vendor coordination
• Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills
• Project-focused execution skills

• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification
• Prior experience as a contractor or in short-term project engagements
• Experience resolving state tax notices and working with state agencies
