The primary purpose of the Deputy Chief of Police is to provide crucial support to the Chief of Police in overseeing and managing all aspects of campus law enforcement and security operations. This includes contributing to the strategic planning, emergency preparedness, community engagement, and leadership development initiatives of the university police department. The Deputy Chief of Police plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, security, and well‑being of the university community while fostering a positive and collaborative relationship between law enforcement and campus stakeholders.
Through effective leadership, coordination, and communication, the Deputy Chief of Police contributes to the overall mission of creating a secure and inclusive environment conducive to learning, growth, and success for all members of the campus community. The Deputy Chief of Police will assist with organizing, directing, and supervising the day‑to‑day activities of the ongoing comprehensive campus police and public safety department.
This includes the 2,500,000 square feet of facilities in over 70 buildings. In addition to the Chief, the department has 33 sworn officers, 14 security officers, 9 police telecommunicators, and 6 administrative staff.
