The primary purpose is to provide clinical experiences that foster and provide graduate students the knowledge, skills, and clinical hours required to meet ASHA certification and NC licensure standards in Speech-Language Pathology, and to maintain accreditation by the Council for Academic Accreditation (CAA).
Key Responsibilities and Related CompetenciesService requirements include participating in service to the department, university, and the profession.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervising, evaluating, and mentoring students and participating in all aspects of clinical experiences.
- Maintaining documentation supporting clinical organization and for the policies and practices necessary to maintain accreditation.
Other functional areas include:
- Function Research: engage in scholarly activities that support the mission of the department and university.
- Function Public Service: provide clinical activities and service to the department, college, university and community as needed.
Candidates with expertise in clinical supervision and clinic management will receive preferential consideration. Candidates must work collaboratively with students and other stakeholders using an interprofessional framework and demonstrate awareness of trends in the profession and clinical education. Knowledge of CAA accreditation and ASHA certification standards is necessary. A senior candidate with experience in clinical education, supervision, and administration may be considered for the role of Clinical Assistant Director, coordinating external practicum placements for students.
Minimum Education /ExperienceEarned Master’s or PhD in a related field. The successful applicant will possess a master’s degree or clinical doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology, Certificate of Clinical Competence in SLP, and NC state licensure (or eligibility). Applicants must have at least three years of clinical experience as a certified SLP. Experience supervising graduate students in clinical placements is preferred.
