About Duke Health's Patient Revenue Management Organization

Pursue your passion for caring with the Patient Revenue Management Organization, which is Duke Health's fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization supporting the entire health system in streamlining the revenue cycle. This includes scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions.

This position is a Weekend Option (10 a.m.

- 10:30 p.m., Friday-Sunday), 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Analyze relationships with patients, physicians, coworkers, and supervisors; work independently.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships; comply with policies and procedures; perform multiple tasks; be service-oriented.
  • Analyze insurance coverage and benefits to ensure timely authorization.
  • Understand and comply with established payment policies and procedures for uninsured patients.
  • Accurately handle high-volume production tasks.
  • Complete patient accounts accurately based on departmental protocols and insurance guidelines.
  • Document billing activities thoroughly.
  • Research billing issues to determine the appropriate source of liability/payment.
  • Greet visitors and patients; provide assistance as needed.
  • Explain policies and departmental coverage; adhere to PRMO credit and collection policies.
  • Implement appropriate rejections/denials and resolve them expediently.
  • Maintain knowledge of procedures related to billing and insurance.
  • Enter and update referrals as required.
  • Communicate with coverage sources effectively.
  • Facilitate resolution of insurance authorization issues with clinical information.
  • Obtain necessary certifications and authorizations; ensure compliance with insurance policies and regulations.
  • Ensure all insurance collection and financial data are accurate.
  • Handle registration and payments appropriately for all patients.
  • Reconcile third-party sponsor ships and process patients accordingly.
  • Gather documentation to support inquiries and work independently on pre-admission, admission, and insurance review tasks.
  • Make referrals for medications when needed.
  • Ensure accounts are processed accurately and efficiently during admitting and registering.
  • Reflect insurance status accurately in the system.
  • Screen patients for government funding options and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Assist patients experiencing financial hardship.
  • Complete reimbursement processes.
  • Obtain all prior policies and procedures before services.
  • Arrange payments and inform patients of their financial responsibilities.
  • Update billing systems with sources of payment.
  • Handle complaints professionally.
  • Assist with cash deposits.
  • Ensure diagnoses and compliance principles are met.
  • Complete care waiver forms for eligible patients to receive reduced benefits.

Physical and Educational Requirements

Work requires basic grammar and mathematical skills typically acquired through a high school education; postsecondary education is preferred. Additional training or related work experience is beneficial.

Experience

Minimum of two years in hospital or clinical service access, physician offices, or billing and collections. Alternatively, an associate's degree in a healthcare-related field with one year of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with one year of relevant experience.
