EMT - Emergency Medical Technician FULL TIME ONLY
Jan-Care Ambulance, Inc. is seeking a full‑time Emergency Medical Technician to provide safe, compassionate ambulance and medical transportation while preserving patient dignity and ensuring community safety.
OverviewAs an EMS provider you will perform out‑of‑hospital care, assist in critical emergency care, and support ambulance operations under WV EMS Rules and Regulations.
Responsibilities- Attend orientation, EMS operations, compliance, and emergency vehicle training; maintain EMS certification.
- Provide out‑of‑hospital patient care and safe transport according to statewide protocols and medical command direction.
- Lift, carry, and balance a minimum of 12 odd‑bags alone and 250 lbs with assistance at 33 inches for 10 feet.
- Listen, comprehend, and respond to spoken information from co‑workers, patients, physicians, dispatchers, and sounds common to the emergency scene.
- Verbal and written communication in English; meet vision requirements to operate a motor vehicle with the State of WV.
- Read and comprehend written materials under stressful conditions; document patient information via an approved WV OEMS record system.
- Perform manual dexterity and fine motor skills, including bending, stooping, crawling, and walking on uneven surfaces.
- Inspect EMS equipment for adequacy, verify operation, refuel, and check fluid; report needed maintenance.
- Respond to emergency situations, assist other emergency personnel as required, and complete tasks assigned by supervisors.
- Maintain professional appearance, perform general maintenance and cleaning of stations, training facilities, and ambulances.
- Stand‑by operations for sporting events, community festivals, and other events with a significant number of people.
- Respond to hazardous material incidents at the first responder level; perform emergency operations during natural disasters and catastrophic events.
- Understand stress response, body substance isolation, and patients’ rights of privacy under HIPAA.
- Interact professionally with medical facility staff, law enforcement, fire/rescue, and communication personnel.
- General knowledge of EMS operations and ambulance equipment.
- Ability to learn through training and use a wide variety of EMS methods.
- Knowledge of road/street systems and general physical layout of assigned communities.
- Skills in airway management, ventilation, CPR, medication administration, defibrillator use, and trauma care, including hemorrhage control, shock treatment, and wound care.
EMS operations occur 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in all weather conditions. EMS personnel respond at a moment’s notice and maintain viable field operations until the situation is resolved or the crew is relieved or replaced.
EMS personnel operate in an uncontrolled public arena; they must be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to confront a wide variety of patient types, behaviors, and situations. Safety, professionalism, and compassion are three critical personal traits necessary to be successful in EMS operations.
Special Requirements and Qualifications- Must be 18 years of age
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Workforce evaluations or equivalent educational screening approved by Jan‑Care/GEMS
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Drug‑free company requirement; pass initial and random screenings
- Background checks: OIG excluded individuals list, criminal history, driving history, child/elder abuse, reference
- Must not be listed on the WV Office of EMS denial list
- Valid telephone number
- Valid Health Care Provider level CPR certification
- Valid EMT‑8 certification from the WV OEMS office
- Proof of TB and hepatitis vaccinations
