EMT – Duke University Health System - Duke Life FlightDuke University Health System’s Life Flight team supports over 20 critical care procedures independently. The patient population ranges from 22-23 week gestation neonates to geriatric patients. In this department, you will work with interdisciplinary teams including Basic Life Support EMTs, single provider ALS Paramedics, Clinical Nurses, Respiratory Therapists (Neo/Peds team), and Critical Care Paramedics.
Job Summary:As an EMT with Duke University Health System, your priority will be providing excellent service while caring for the whole person in a patient-centered atmosphere. The EMT Driver will perform activities related to the Life Flight/Life Care Critical Care Transport service, including operation of the ambulance and medical support systems, assisting with satellite base operations, and participating in ongoing education outreach programs.
- Responsible for minor repairs to the unit, including changing light bulbs, replenishing fluids, tightening nuts and bolts, inspecting tires, etc.
- Responsible for daily maintenance such as fueling and cleaning the vehicle
- Report minor and major repair needs to the Clinical Operations Director
- Assist nursing staff with patient care as requested, including loading/unloading equipment and providing information to family members
- Replenish medical air, oxygen, and supplies used during transport
- Have knowledge of streets and highways within the response area of the mobile intensive care unit
Shifts:
Full-time: 12-hour shifts, rotating schedule
Locations:Locations will be decided during the interview process; possible sites include Smithfield or Durham.
Qualifications:Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 6 months to 2 years of experience operating an ambulance or fire truck equivalent to the Duke mobile intensive care unit (preferred)
- Two years of EMT experience with an active EMS provider (preferred)
Certifications:
- Current North Carolina EMT certification
- Current Class C Driver’s license
- Current NC EVD (emergency vehicle driver) certification (preferred)
- Current BLS (or higher) certification
