The North Carolina Black Alliance (NCBA) and Advance Carolina (ANC) are seeking a dedicated Community Organizer to build and expand a strong volunteer base, foster leadership, and drive impactful issue-based campaigns. This role will focus on grassroots organizing and election-related activities, emphasizing community engagement, mobilizing volunteers, and executing effective campaigns that align with organizational goals. The Community Organizer will report to the Regional Coordinator and work closely with local stakeholders, canvassers, and organizational staff to ensure success in voter engagement and constituency development efforts.
Key ResponsibilitiesBuild Base of New Volunteer Leaders & Engage in Issues-Based Work (50%)
- Initiate and cultivate relationships within the community to expand the volunteer base.
- Identify potential leaders and provide them with support and resources to take on leadership roles.
- Lead efforts in organizing issue-based campaigns and initiatives, collaborating with volunteers to drive meaningful change.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with individuals across the county to understand their concerns, interests, and motivations for involvement.
- Recruit and support volunteers for elections protection work, ensuring their readiness and commitment to safeguarding the democratic process.
- Assist in drafting a local organizing agenda aligned with community needs and priorities.
- Facilitate county table meetings to foster collaboration, communication, and coordination among stakeholders.
- Create and implement educational opportunities to raise awareness of critical issues and promote engagement in the statewide agenda.
Voter Engagement & Turnout (50%)
- Provide in-field training and guidance to canvassers, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to engage effectively with voters.
- Recruit and maintain relationships with both paid and volunteer canvassers, offering ongoing support, motivation, and feedback.
- Collaborate with the data team to ensure accurate data collection, analysis, and utilization for targeted voter engagement strategies.
- Monitor the performance and progress of canvassing teams, offering support to maximize effectiveness.
Coordinate the ordering and distribution of materials, ensuring timely availability for canvassing activities. - Actively encourage neighborhood-focused canvassing initiatives to enhance community engagement and voter turnout.
- Recruit and support volunteers for election protection work, ensuring their readiness and commitment to safeguarding the democratic process.
- Experience in community organizing, volunteer management, or grassroots campaigns, or a willingness to learn.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and community empowerment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Proficiency in data management and analysis is preferred.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and outreach activities.
- Access to reliable transportation for travel within the county.
- Must reside in NC
- This is a contract position pay is $3,500 monthly.
